Data Collection

Every specification in our database is sourced directly from official manufacturer datasheets -- the PDF or web-based technical documents published by the manufacturer. We never scrape specifications from third-party aggregators or rely on marketing summaries.

These primary source documents contain the lab-tested values that matter: efficiency ratings, voltage characteristics, temperature coefficients, degradation rates, and warranty terms. When a manufacturer publishes a new datasheet or revises an existing one, we aim to reflect those changes within 30 days.

Verification Process

Every product is cross-referenced against multiple independent sources before publication:

  • Manufacturer website: Official product pages and technical documentation
  • IEC/UL certifications: Independent safety and performance certification data
  • Installer documentation: Technical specifications used by certified solar professionals
  • NREL records: National Renewable Energy Laboratory efficiency data
  • CEC database: California Energy Commission independently verified performance listings

When we find conflicting data between a manufacturer's marketing page and their technical datasheet, we default to the datasheet values -- those are the numbers backed by lab testing.

Scoring Algorithm

Our "Best of" rankings use weighted criteria to produce objective, repeatable scores. The five scoring dimensions and their weights are:

Ranking Weight Distribution

Efficiency25%
Warranty25%
Temperature Coefficient20%
Degradation Rate15%
Mechanical Load15%

Each comparison declares a winner and explains the margin: "narrow" (close call, either product is a good choice), "clear" (meaningful advantages), or "decisive" (one product is significantly stronger). We also include scenario-based recommendations so you can evaluate based on your specific priorities.

To qualify for our Top 5 lists, a product must be currently available for purchase through US distribution channels. Discontinued products are kept in our database for reference but excluded from active rankings.

SolarSpec Score /100

Unlike competitors who hide their thresholds, we publish every weight and grade boundary.

Dimension Weight Source A threshold B C
Performance (efficiency + temp coef) 25% Datasheet STC/PTC >22% >20% >18%
Warranty 20% Datasheet 25/25 yr 15/25 yr 12/25 yr

Value ($/W) 10% Market data <$0.30 <$0.45 <$0.60

EnergySage and SolarReviews publish their weights but never their threshold values. SolarSpec publishes both — verify any product's score against this table.

Our own AI-farm audit

We audit ourselves with Patina (our in-house tool):

Current score: C 78.5 / 100

Updated 2026-05-26 · 5 pages audited · Last 90 days: D 60 → C 78.5

Why we publish this: Most "AI-generated" sites hide their AI fingerprint. We measure ours openly and improve it. See Patina source code →

Price Estimation

Price estimates are based on aggregated installer quotes and published price lists. All pricing is clearly marked as estimated and should not be treated as a guarantee. Your actual cost will depend on your location, installer, system configuration, and current market conditions. Price ranges are reviewed quarterly using installer pricing data and industry reports.

Conflict of Interest Policy

SolarSpecHub maintains strict editorial independence:

  • No affiliate links: We do not earn commissions from product purchases
  • No paid placements: Manufacturers cannot pay to appear in our rankings
  • No manufacturer partnerships: We have no commercial relationships with solar equipment makers
  • Revenue source: Display advertising only, served programmatically and not tied to specific brands

Our editorial team has no visibility into which advertisers appear on which pages. Advertising revenue does not influence our product evaluations, comparisons, or rankings.

Correction Policy

If you find an error in our specifications, comparison analysis, or any other content, email madeauabcdxa69@gmail.com with:

  • The product name or page URL
  • The correct specification value
  • A link to the official source documentation

We verify all correction requests and update within 48 hours of confirmation.
